Abstract

Research on the bioaccumulation of heavy metals in freshwater lake biota has gained a lot of attention in recent years. Noteworthy changes in the planktonic organisms caused by the heavy metal deposits in the Sasthamkotta Lake assessed during January to December 2016.There were significant variations in the heavy metal pollution in the organisms between different seasons. Plankon in freshwater system showed the deposits of heavy metals in the order Cr>Pb>Cu>Zn>Cd. The level of these pollutants in the biota was within acceptable limits. Heavy fertilizer utilizing in agricultural practices and untreated domestic effluents are one of the reasons behind the pollutant enhancement in the watershed.
