THE STATISTICAL CORRELATION BETWEEN NORMALIZED DIFFERENCE VEGETATION INDEX AND LAND SURFACE TEMPERATURE IN THE CHARAIDEO DISTRICT OF ASSAM, INDIA

Shyamal Borah

Abstract

In the present study, the satellite data with multi temporal periods such as 1994, 2004, 2014 and 2024 were utilized to study Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) in the Charaideo District, Assam. The aim of the study is to analyze the correlation between LST and NDVI for the given years. We have used the ArcMap 10.8 and IBM SPSS Statistics software for analyzing the correlation. The results of emissivity and vegetation index interpreted for each period indicated that when the NDVI decreases land surface temperature shows increasing anomaly. The statistical regression analysis of NDVI and LST were shown in Standardized regression coefficient (B) value as -0.587, -0.627, -0.606 and -0.587 respectively for the years of 1994, 2004, 2014 and 2024.
