AN ANALYTICAL STUDY ON DIFFERENT BREEDING PRACTICES FOLLOWED BY ORGANIC POULTRY FARMERS IN SOUTHERN AREA OF RAJASTHAN, INDIA

Abstract

The present study deals with the different breeding practices followed the poultry farmers showed that majority of respondent’s rear indigenous/ desi breeds with 69.16 and 62.50 per cent, respectively in Non-TSP and TSP area. The major criteria use for selection of eggs for hatching was both shape and size in Non- TSP and TSP area (45.00%) while, egg size in TSP area (48.33%). All the respondents in both surveyed areas use natural method of incubation by broody hen. The major source of chicks for respondents in Non-TSP and TSP area (67.50%) and TSP area (76.67%) was hatching at home. All the respondents both in Non-TSP and TSP area practice natural method of breeding. Majority of respondents maintain male and female ratio with (86.67%) in Non-TSP and (82.50%) respondents in TSP area. 72.50 per cent respondents of Non-TSP area and 76.67 per cent respondents of TSP area reported that hatchability percentage was higher in winter season. Majority of the respondents of Non-TSP area (80.84%) and TSP area (77.50%) place “10-12” eggs under broody hen.
