Abstract

The study was carried out to determine the effect of sowing depth on the growth of (Melia azedarach). The experiment was conducted in Polythene bags measuring 7.5 cm x 20 cm filled with potting mixture consisting of top soil, sand and FYM in a ratio 2:2:1. The filled polythene bags were laid out in a complete random design CRD with each treatment having 10 polythene bags replicated five times. Two seeds were sown per polybags at a depth of 0.2 mm, 0.4mm and 0.6mm, respectively, and were later thinned to one seeding per bag. It was observed growth parameters: shoot length, root length and number of leaves was highest in 0.2mm sowing depth followed by 0.4mm while 0.6mm depth observed lowest growth parameters. This study recommends the use of 0.4mm sowing depth for production of Melia azedarach.
