EFFECT OF SEED PELLETING ON GROWTH AND YIELD IN OKRA (ABELMOSCHUS ESCULENTUS (L.)) MOENCH CV. ARKA ANAMIKA

T.M. Abishek and S. Padmavathi

Abstract

Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) seed pelleting with two botanical leaf powders viz., neem (Azadiracta indica) and pungam (Pongamia pinnata) and Bio- fertilizers viz., Trichoderma spp., Pseudomonas fluorescens, Phosphobacteria, Azospirillum were done to study the effect of seed pelleting on growth and yield of okra. The study revealed that higher values for field emergence (21.30%), no. of leaves per plant (29), no. of branches per plant (11) and plant height (90.24), were recorded in the seeds pelleted with pungam leaf powder @ 200 g/kg. The yield parameters such as fruit length (17.44 cm), fruit weight (16.89 g), fruit yield per plant (291.35 g), no. of fruits / plant (17.25), no of seeds / fruit (87) and 100 seed weight were also found highest in pungam leaf pelleted seeds. Among all the treatments the least growth and yield parameters were observed in control.
