Abstract
This paper discusses the status, prospects, and challenges of sustainable tourism in Bihar. Bihar is enriched with historic monuments, religious places, forests, rivers, water falls, lakes, caves, temples and hill stations. There are national importance and State protected monuments. The state is a home to numerous tribes. It is also well-known for its handloom and handicraft products. Bhagalpur is known as Silk City of India. It has been observed that there is a bright prospect of religious tourism, adventure tourism, heritage tourism, rural tourism, event tourism, and eco-tourism in the state. Still there are many challenges before its tourism sector. The prominent challenges are the abysmal infrastructure, poor connectivity, lack of media coverage and lack of alternative means of transport. Therefore, the government should properly address the issues and minimise the restrains before the tourism sector.
