Abstract
Aromatic rice varieties differ widely for nutrient uptake and yield. Supply of nitrogen through combination of manure sources is better than farmyard manure alone. Hence, a field experiment was conducted to assess effect of varieties and manure sources on nutrient uptake, yield, economics and post harvest soil quality of organic aromatic rice. Sixteen treatment combinations comprising four varieties and four manure sources were tried in split plot design with three replications at Bhubaneswar, India during kharif 2022. The four varieties viz., V1- ââ¬ËGeetanjaliââ¬â¢, V2- ââ¬ËPoornabhogaââ¬â¢, V3- ââ¬ËCR Dhan 910ââ¬â¢ and V4- ââ¬ËNua Chinikaminiââ¬â¢ were allocated to the main plots. Recommended dose of nitrogen (RDN) @ 60 kg ha-1 was supplied through combination of varying proportions of manures as farmyard manure (FYM), vermicompost (VC) and neem oilcake (NC). The four manure sources viz., M1- FYM (100% N), M2- FYM (40% RDN)+ VC (30% RDN)+ NC (30% RDN), M3- FYM (50% RDN)+ VC (25% RDN)+ NC (25% RDN), M4- 60% N (FYM)+ 20% N (VC)+ 20% N (NC) were allocated to the sub plots. Among treatment combinations, rice variety ââ¬ËPoornabhogaââ¬â¢ with application of FYM (40% RDN)+ VC (30% RDN)+ NC (30% RDN) registered the maximum crop N uptake of 69.87 kg ha-1, P uptake of 12.08 kg ha-1 and K uptake of 93.63 kg ha-1 and gave grain yield of 3.59 t ha-1, straw yield of 5.92 t ha-1, net return of Rs. 1,01,470 ha-1 and return per rupee investment of 2.25. Nutrient uptake and grain yields were linearly related. Crop N, P and K uptake varied in the range of 15.8-17.4, 3.07-3.16 and 22.80-24.71 kg tonne-1 grain, respectively. There was increase in pH and microbial biomass carbon, decrease in bulk density, buildup of soil P and mining of soil available N and K. Organic rice farmers should grow the variety ââ¬ËPoornabhogaââ¬â¢ with application of 24-18-18 kg N through FYM-vermicompost neem oilcake, respectively, for maximizing productivity and profitability with maintenance of soil quality.
