Abstract
The present study was carried out to analyze the compound growth rate and instability in area, production and productivity of major cash crops viz. cotton, oilseeds, sugarcane, jute and mesta, and tobacco in India. The time series data of last 50 years from 1971-72 to 2020-21 was analysed by dividing the total time period into five sub periods of five decades. The exponential regression model was used to assess the compound growth rate while Cuddy Della Valle index was applied to examine the instability of area, production and productivity. Several fluctuations in the growth pattern of area, production and productivity of cash crops were observed over the period. Also, most of the cash crops were found instable in term of area, production and productivity. Therefore, proper policies should be formulated to reducing instability and increase the production of cash crops.
