Abstract

This review paper presents the past work on the adsorption method of defluorination by using alumina and its various modifications. Adsorption is considered as the most efficient technology because it is simple, cost efficient, flexible, and simple in designing, easily operated, and regenerated. Activated alumina is used in domestic defluorination plant designed by UNICEF for rural India. Aluminum based adsorbents are suitable for fluoride removal because of the high affinity and thermodynamic stability between the fluoride ion and aluminum.
