Abstract
Recently there has been a serious concern about the declining water quality in streams and rivers of Chennai. Monitoring of natural water bodies alone cannot detect the source of aquatic pollution. Hence, a biological approach is applied to detect the nature of pollution. In this study bioindicators present in the Red Hills Lake were identified. The study indicates the presence/ absence of a number of bioindicators provides an ideal information about environmental quality or status of pollution load of the Red Hills Lake. The details of the bioindicators are discussed in the present study.
