Marine sponges were collected from Gulf of Mannar region and screened for the association of bacteria and fungi. In this study, 16 fungal species and 10 bacterial species were isolated. Among the fungal genera, Aspergillus dominated the assemblage with 7 species. Further, while comparing the group Hyphomycetes dominated the assemblage followed by ascomycete, zygomycetes, yeast form and sterile forms.
