Lyophilization and liquid nitrogen storage employ organic cryoprotectants as suspending media for preservation of Thiobacillus fcrrooxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans cultures used in biohydrometallurgical processes. Upon revival, these preserved cultures fail to exhibit growth due to the effect of organic cryoprotectant and physical injury ca used to these cells during preservation. In the present paper, experiments were carried out to study the effect of different concentrations of some organic cryoprotectants on the Iron Oxidation Rate and Sulfur Oxidation Rate of T. ferrooxidans and T. thiooxidans cultures.
