STABILITY ANALYSIS OF BOTTLE GOURD (LAGENARIA SICERARIA(MOL.) STANDL.) IN SOUTHERN PLAINS OF RAJASTHAN (INDIA)

Abstract

Fifty-eight genotypes of bottle gourd were evaluated for stability in a Completely Randomized Block Designover three different environments in Rajasthan during summer and late Kharif 2021 (E2 & E3). According tothe Eberhart and Russell model for stability analysis, P3 x P6 for days to first harvest, P2 x P9, P3 x P6, P3 x P9,P4 x P7, P3 x P7, P1 x P3for fruit length, P4 x P10, P2 x P5, P1 x P6forrind thickness, P1 x P6 , P6 x P8, P9 x P10 for fleshthickness, P6 x P8, P3 x P9, P1 x P6, P8 x P9, P8 x P10, P4 x P6for stem girth, P8 x P9, P6 x P8, P4 x P8, P8 x P10 for vinelength at final harvest, P4 x P5 and P5 x P6 for yield per vine, P1 x P5 and P1 x P3 for total sugar and P5 x P10, P5x P9, P9 x P10, P1 x P2, P1 x P3, P1 x P6 and P4 x P7 for non-reducing sugar were exhibited non-significantdeviation from regression (S2di) and regression coefficient (bi<1) along with mean value lower than thepopulation mean. It indicates that these hybrids would stable in unfavorable environment. The hybrids P4x P5 and P6 x P7 for days to first harvest, P5 x P9 and P3 x P5 for fruit length, P7 x P10, P6 x P7, P6 x P9, P1 x P5 andP3 x P8 rind thickness, P2 x P8, P6 x P9, P6 x P10 and P4 x P9 flesh thickness, P3 x P8, P7 x P10, P5 x P7, P6 x P10, P1 xP2 for stem girth, P1 x P10, P3 x P6 and P5 x P6 for vine length at final harvest, P5 x P8, P8 x P10, P7 x P9, P1 x P9,P4 x P10, P1 x P6 and P6 x P9 for yield per vine, P7 x P9 and P7 x P10 for total sugar, P1 x P3 for reducing sugar andP8 x P9, P6 x P10, P3 x P7, P3 x P9, P2 x P3 and P1 x P8 for non-reducing sugar were exhibited non-significantdeviation from regression (S2di) and regression coefficient (bi>1) along with mean value higher than thepopulation mean. It indicates that these hybrids would stablein favorable environment. The hybrid P8 x P10and P9 x P10 for rind thickness and the hybrid P4 x P9 yield per vine were exhibited non-significant deviationfrom regression (S2di) and regression coefficient nearly equal to a unit (bi=1) along with mean value greaterthan the population mean, thereby indicated its average stability under different environment.
