Abstract

The economic vulnerability of the community threatens the existence of the forests. Agroforestry system is a form of forest management that involves community participation. This research is aimed to examine the factors that cause deforestation and the role of agroforestry in forest management in Giripurno Village. Qualitative methods were used to collect and analyze data through interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was done through content analysis. The research finding revealed that deforestation in Giripurno was caused by economic pressures, misinterpreted reform era policies, and previous management weaknesses that did not involve the community. The pattern of agroforestry is divided into four types, covering a combination of forestry plants with vegetables, forestry plants with coffee, forestry plants with coffee and vegetables, and forestry plants with fruit trees. In ecology, agroforestry plays a role in forest rehabilitation, erosion control, floods and landslide. The socio-economic benefits include increasing income through the provision of employment and benefits for social welfare. These findings can be used as an input for the application and development of agroforestry in other regions with the same context.
