ECOLOGICAL AND BIOLOGICAL RATIONALE FOR THE RECLAMATION OF SALINE LANDS

Z.S. MUSTAFAYEV, A.T. KOZYKEVA, L.K. ZHUSUPOVA AND K.B. ABDESHEV

Abstract

The authors developed a method for reclamation of saline lands that could be used to provide time-related cultivation of crops in annual intervals with desalinization of saline soils to a certain acceptable level along with water application pursuant to leaching requirements, as well as taking into account the ecological requirements of environmental engineering, classification of saline soils and salt tolerance. Research originality lies in the fact that the authors offer a new conceptual approach to the reclamation of saline lands, which implies strict control over regular natural processes and their rhythmic variations, the impact of changing climatic factors and consideration of nature as a single organism, along with intrinsic cyclical flows of substances in large and small circulations. The authors used industrial research materials and production data related to the cultivation of different types of salt-tolerant crops on saline soils with different degrees of salinity in the desert areas of Kazakhstan and Central Asia, as well as methods of mathematical statistics, analysis and modeling of natural processes.
