Abstract

Rhodamine B has been adsorbed from aqueous solution by using MnFe2O4 nanomagneticin batch method. MnFe2O4 was prepared via co-precipitation using MnCl2.H2O and FeCl2.H2O as precursors. The resulting adsorbent was characterized by X-ray diffraction, Vibrating sample magnetometer, Transmission electron microscope, Fourier-transforminfrared and pH pzc. Effect of initial concentration of rhodamine B and contact time were evaluated in the adsorption process. Adsorption equilibrium was calculated according to Langmuir and Freundlich equation whereas adsorption kinetic was determined by pseudo order one and pseudo second order approach. The results showed that Mn Fe2O4 nanomagnetic has saturation magnetization 48.90 emu/g. Langmuir equation was able to describe reaction equilibrium rather than Freundlich, adsorption capacity calculated is 46.083 mg/g. Evaluation on adsorption kinetic concluded that adsorption using MnFe2O4 follows pseudo second order while thermodynamic calculation showed the process is spontaneous and endothermic.
