A REVIEW ON MICROBIAL LIPASE PRODUCTION, PURIFICATION, CHARACTERIZATION AND ITS APPLICATIONS IN VARIOUS FIELDSP. JOYRUTH AND LALI GROWTHERAbstract Enzymes are among the most important products obtained for human needs through microbial sources. Lipases are glycerol ester hydrolases that catalyze the hydrolysis of triglycerides to free fatty acids and glycerol. Microbial lipases are commercially significant because of high yield and low cost of production. The present review elaborate the screening, lipase production and optimization by various parameters. Bacterial lipase are mostly extracellular and produced by submerged fermentation. The enzyme is most commonly purified by Ammonium sulphate precipitation, Dialysis and HPLC. Microbial lipase have been used in detergents, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, leather processing, synthesis of surfactants, biodiesel production etc.,
