A REVIEW ON ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT OF THERMAL POWER PLANTSDHRITI MISHRA, RICHA TIWARI AND A.K. DWIVEDI1Abstract A critical review of environmental impact assessment (EIA) study for thermal power plants has been carried out by considering available literature. In general, there are many types of power generating sources available in India; among all thermal power plants are the most economical and widely used source of power. Around 66% (Sarath et al. 2014) of electricity generation in our country is produced from coal fired thermal power plants. The coal fired thermal power plants are the main source of carbon dioxide emission in India which has caused serious environmental problems. In order to evaluate all possible effects of proposed project, environmental impact assessment is required prior to installation of any thermal power plant.
