Abstract

The article provides a comparative assessment of tolerance of a test organism Stylonychia mytilus to nanoparticles of heavy metals (Mo and Ni) and their oxides. Total impact of toxicants on a cell of protozoan was studied. Time and dose-related effects, toxic effects of nanoparticles and their oxides were revealed depending on the physical and chemical parameters. Acute toxic effect was demonstrated, it occurred in the first hour of incubation of nanoparticles with test-object with manifestation of molybdenum oxide nanoparticles compared to other toxicants. Assessment of concentration dependence has shown the leading toxicity of Mo nanoparticles (0.00625M) and its oxide (0.00625M) as compared with Ni and nickel oxide toxicity; their toxicity was much lower (0.05 M). Toxic effects of nanoparticles are due to the impact on cell wall structures and damage of membrane permeability followed by concurrent processes that occur in case of damage.
