Abstract

Lakes are the important water resources which is used for storing the water. In India, most of the lakes are affected by various factors due to the urbanization and industrialization. The main problem is discharging of untreated urban and industrial waste water directly into the lake which causes lake pollution .The water in the lake cannot be used for domestic and irrigation purposes. Siltation is also a major problem in lakes that reduces the water storing capacity year by year. The Vaiyapuri Lake in Palani is chosen as the project area. This study includes waste water treatment process and simple analytical modelling for island formation in lakes. Waste water treatment is done with two treatments namely Bio Ozolyte and Nualgi. Simple analytical modelling is done for island formation using the silt and sediments in lake.
