VINYL ACETIC ACID GRAFTED PVC MEMBRANE BASED CALCIUM ION SELECTIVE ELECTRODE – ITS PREPARATION AND ANALYTICAL APPLICATIONA. VIJAYALAKSHMI AND J. THAMARAI SELVIAbstract A poly vinyl chloride based membrane ion selective electrode has been developed in which vinyl acetic acid has been grafted on poly (vinyl chloride) powder. The ion selective electrode system, prepared without an internal solution, contains dioctyl phthalate (plasticizer) and sodium tetra phenyl borate (anion excluder), and shows near–nernstian responses in linear concentration range of 1M to 1x10-4M with detection limits of the order of 10-4M. The stable potentiometric signals are obtained within a short time period of 4minutes. The effect of pH, and the effect of medium have been studied found to give a better response. Selectively coefficient values were evaluated using fixed interference method. The sensors have also been used as an indicator electrode in potentiometric titrations of Ca (II) ions with EDTA and its determination in milk and water samples.
