PERFORMANCE OF PADDY IN BHANDARA DISTRICT, M.S., INDIA

Abstract

The study intends to examine the performance of paddy in Bhandra and Gondia districts during the period 1980-81 to 2009-10. The secondary data on pertaining to area, production and productivity were collected from the various Government published sources i.e.Statistical Abstract of Maharashtra State, District Socioeconomic Review, Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Government of Maharashtra. The results of the study indicate, at overall period, the growth rate of area was positively significant at 1 per cent level of significance in Bhandara district. The growth rate of paddy production was stagnant in Bhandara district during the Period I (1.56 per cent) and Period II (0.04 per cent). In overall period the production was stagnant (1.56 per cent).The productivity during the overall period in Bhandara district was positive (0.44 per cent). During the Period I productivity was 0.23 per cent. Whereas, during the Period II productivity has the negative (-1.05 per cent).The variability in area, Production, and productivity under paddy was the highest in period II (29.82 per cent), (27.48 per cent) and (29.82 per cent) respectively than period I.
