Abstract

We have recently introduced a technology which enables generation of clean energy from date palm waste (DPW) in the form of methane-rich biogas. This has been a significant step because millions of tonnes of DPW in generated in the world and, in the absence of any method of its gainful utilization, it slowly degrades in the open, releasing global warming gases. After establishing proof-of-concept, and successful operation of DPW-fed digesters at bench and pilot scales, an attempt has been made to explore the possibility of catalyzing the DPW fermentation by the use of iron and nickel. The letter, at concentrations of 2.5 s/ L significantly catalyzed bloges generation for DPW.
