Abstract

In this research seasonal variation of microbial population of pond water and nearby well water was investigated for a period of two years (2006-2008). Maximum bacterial count (16000/100 mL) was recorded in pond water during the rainy season and minimum count observed during pre monsoon period. In relation to the microbial load of pond water, the bacterial count of well water was went up during the monsoon season. The bacterial count of well water ranged from 320 to 420 during September to November. Low bacterial count recorded during summer months in well water. The concentration of bacteria in the present study was found much above the threshold limit and it may give rise to harmful effects to the public health.
