ABHIJIT TALUKDAR AND G.U. AHMED

Abstract

The callus induction by various treatments using different juvenile explants of Aquilana agallocha Roxb. (Thymeliaceae), an woody evergreen oil bearing tree endemic in North-East India, was studied. The callus could be initiated in both MS medium and WPM when supplemented with both 2, 4-0 and Kinetin. However, callus initiation was earlier in both full and half strength MS medium than in WPM of similar strength and hormonal supplement. Two types of calli, viz, moderately growing green callus and fast growing white callus, could be obtained from leaf, stem and shoot tip cultuie. White callus biomass produced at different intervals of growth gave a typical sigmoid curve, with distinct growth phases.
