ARSENIC SPECIATION IN WATER RESOURCES BY GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY

S.M. TALEBI

Abstract

Trace amounts of different arsenic species in river and ground-water samples were separated and determined by capillary gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector. The water samples were reacted with thioglycolic acid methylester at pH-2 and the arsenic complexes were then extracted with cyclohexane and injected to the GC column. The technique was capable to separate and determine the inorganic and different organic species of arsenic. An excellent recovery (>97%) was found for the organic compounds of As. The predominant form of arsenic in the both water resources was inorganic form.
