EFFECT OF FYM, PHOSPHORUS AND PHOSPHORUS SOLUBILIZING BACTERIA ON MICROBIAL TRAITS, GROWTH AND YIELD OF LENTILH.S. Sekhon, Guriqbal Singh, Veena Khanna, Poonam Sharma and Hari RamAbstract Field studies were undertaken at the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during rabi 2003-04 to 2005-06 to study the influence of farm yard manure (FYM), phosphorus and phosphorus solubilizing bacteria (PSB) on microbial traits, growth and yield of lentil. Number of nodules/plant remained unaffected by FYM application but their dry weight was improved significantly. The addition of P and PSB increased the dry weight of nodules significantly. The chlorophyll content of leaves also enhanced with the addition of FYM, P and PSB. FYM tended to increase number of pods/plant and seeds/pod. However, P significantly increased the number of pods/plant upto 40 kg P205/ha.The grain yield of lentil showed significant increase with FYM and phosphorus and the increase was recorded upto 40 kg P205/ ha.The interaction between FYM and P in relation to grain yield was significant only in 2004-05.
