Abstract

Field studies were undertaken at the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana during rabi 2003-04 to 2005-06 to study the influence of farm yard manure (FYM), phosphorus and phosphorus solubilizing bacteria (PSB) on microbial traits, growth and yield of lentil. Number of nodules/plant remained unaffected by FYM application but their dry weight was improved significantly. The addition of P and PSB increased the dry weight of nodules significantly. The chlorophyll content of leaves also enhanced with the addition of FYM, P and PSB. FYM tended to increase number of pods/plant and seeds/pod. However, P significantly increased the number of pods/plant upto 40 kg P205/ha.The grain yield of lentil showed significant increase with FYM and phosphorus and the increase was recorded upto 40 kg P205/ ha.The interaction between FYM and P in relation to grain yield was significant only in 2004-05.
