DECOLOURIZATION OF TEXTILE DYES BY SOIL FUNGI

VETRISELVI.r.CHITRA. A AND SARA VANAMUTHU. R

Abstract

Decolourization of three different textile dyes viz., scarlet direct red-23, fast greenish direct blue-86 and brilliant direct violet-9 by seven fungal isolates namely A.terreus, C.Iiinata, A.alternata, C.glomosum, F.oxysporum, P.notatum and Trichoderma viridae from dye contaminated soils was studied. A.terreus, C.lunata, and T.viridae were more efficient in the decolourization of scarlet red than direct blue. All the seven fungal isolates showed moderate decolourization activity on brilliant violet. However among the seven species fungi A.terreus was more effective than other species of fungi on three dyes.
