EFFECT OF SPORE SUSPENSIONS AND CULTURE FILTRATE OR ANTAGONISTS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF ERGOT ON PEARL MILLETS. MA ElA DEVAMURTHY, H. S. PRAKASTP AND H.S. SHETTYAbstract In order to prevent the development of ergot (Clomimps fusifonnes Loveless) on pea rt Poinmet um glaum 'In (L.) R. Or.) spore .Tension. and culture filtrates of entagonists-Arpergillus Mgr. Einnxeum andmpogunts, Evsnrimn chlamydosporgan,F,heterasponon, Trkhedenne &names, T E.milui mibtilis were applied as sprays under field conditions Increases in spore concentration of antagonists decreased the formation of scle rota, The aqueous suspension (10 ad') and different corayntratthris of culture filtrate of the antagonists reduced the incidence of ergot nn bagged earheadsirrespwtiveof timeof spray v m.4, is inoculation of the pathogen. They were also effective in reduong the ergot modence on unbagged ear heads. The ger mina tion o f sclerotia collected from the ea rhesds sprayed with spore suspension was low. The sIcerotia collected from the ea Meads sprayed with culture nitrate ocarlagon.s also showed reduced germination percentage.
