ESTIMATION OF RICE YIELD IN HARYANA USING REMOTE SENSING DATA

Abstract

The direct methods used in general agricultural yield estimation surveys are only acceptable at the national and state levels; however smaller scale yield estimations are not much hampered by it. However, due to their broad and varied application in the public and private sectors, the need for appropriate micro level (e.g., district, block, village level) statistics from sample surveys has increased dramatically over the past decade. However, with the help of satellite and crop yield data using the current sampling design it is possible to create small area estimates of agricultural production at the micro level. This study investigates the application of the small area estimating technique at the block level for the Kurukshetra district, Haryana, India. To generate a better crop yield estimate for paddy crop utilizing data from crop cutting trials and remote sensing data (MODIS/Terra data).
