Abstract

Explants were inoculated on Murashige and Skoog's basal medium (MS) containing 3% sucrose (wtvol), 1% agar and various concentrations of 6-Benzyl-aminopurine (BAP; 0.1 -2.0 mg1-1), Kinetin (Kn; 0.5 - 2.0 mg1-1). Indole acetic acid (IAA; 0.2 - 2.0 mg11) in various combinations. The effect of BAP was found to be highest in the concentration of BAP (2.0 mg1-1) where as the effect of IAA was found to be highest in the concentration of IAA (1.0 mg11). The combined effect of BAP and Kinetin was found to be highest in the concentration of BAP (1.0 mg1-') and Kn ( 0.5 mg1-'). Kinetin above 1.5 mg11 resulted in the formation of callus. The best combination was found to be the Indole acetic acid and Kinetin with the concentration of Kn (1.5 mg11) and IAA (1.0 mg1-1) and found record number of 32 shoots. The roots number was also found to be highest ir. this combination and found 39 number of roots.
