Abstract

Detailed hydrochemical analysis was carried out on a number of water samples collected from the Ambagarhchowki block of, Rajnandgaon district, Chhattisgarh to assessthe quality of groundwater in this region. Results indicate that the groundwater of this regionis enriched in Na+, K+, Ca++, Mg++, HCO3 -, SO4 -2 and Cl-. The results of vertical sounding also indicate that the groundwater underlying the formations are quite well. Comparison ofwater quality standards with WHO indicate that they are quite fit for drinking. Plotting of results in Piper’s Diagram and on the basis of hydrochemical studies, three groundwater types have been delineated. They are Ca(HCO3)2, Mg(HCO3)2, and NaHCO3types. Some intermediate groundwater sub-types are also recognized in the transitional zones, thus indicating that all the major groundwater types are not spatially isolated.
