FIRST REPORT OF LESSER RICE-LEAF ROLLER MOTH (MARASMIA POEYALIS BOISDUVAL, 1833) FROM RAJASTHAN, INDIA

Abstract

Moths belong to the order Lepidoptera and are economically important herbivores in the ecosystem. Present observation provide first time record of Lesser rice-leaf roller moth, Marasmia poeyalis Boisduval, 1833 (Lepidoptera: Pyraloidea: Crambidae: Spilomelinae) from the Rajasthan. Previously, its occurrence was recorded in various regions of the country, including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Karnataka, Gujarat, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala. Males of the lesser rice-leaf roller moth species are usually smaller than females. Females possess triangular and brownyellow forewings, whereas as male forewings are characterized by dark brown patches and shining scales along the mid-costa.
