Abstract

The present study was carried out to document and assess the diversity of vascular aquatic macrophytes in the Ramban district, Union Territory Jammu and Kashmir in the shadow of the Pir Panjal Himalaya. A total of 63 vascular aquatic macrophytes have been documented in the study area, which belongs to 39 genera of 22 families (16 Eudicots, 5 Monocots, and 1 Pteridophyte). Eudicots harbour the maximum diversity of vascular aquatic macrophytes with 47 species, followed by Monocots (15 species) and Pteridophytes (1 species). The vascular aquatic macrophytes belong to different growth forms, viz. aquatic (3%), emergent (22%), floating (3%), mesophytes (19%), and semiaquatic (53%).
