Abstract
The present study was conducted to evaluate the role of acetone extracts on different microorganisms such as Salmonella sp., Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aerogenosa and Escherichia coli. Bark of Mangifera indica was obtained by herbal garden of IFTM University, Moradabad, U.P. India. Acetone extract of M. indica bark was used to evaluate phytochemical analysis and antimicrobial activity by disc diffusion method. Antimicrobial activity was done for some bacteria and fungi like S. aureus, P. aerogenosa, Salmonella sp., and E. coli., Candida albicans and Aspergilus niger. Antioxidant property was also evaluated by DPPH method. Acetone extract of M. indica (Mango) bark shows the presence of phytochemicals like, phenolic compounds, tannins and steroids. The acetone extracts of M. indica shows antibacterial efficacy against some pathogenic bacteria. The antimicrobial activity of M. indica against all the tested organisms demonstrated a mean zone diameter of inhibition ranging from 25 to 30 mm for pathogenic strain of bacteria and 0-20 mm for fungal strain. The MIC of the acetone extracts ranged from 6.25 to 12.5 üg/mL. However MBC ranges from 12.5 to 25 üg/mL Antioxidant activity showed moderate DPPH scavenging activities of the plant with 9.25 percent increase at 5 üg/mL concentration. The antibacterial activity of plant bark extracts give an idea that extracts are effective against above mentioned microorganism. Zone of inhibition shows significant results. After the preliminary screening for antibacterial activity by well diffusion method, the MIC & MBC also determined against above mentioned bacteria. Plant bark extracts like showed inhibitory actions against all the bacteria under this study. Varying degree of inhibitory actions of bark extract is found against individual bacteria.
