COMPARISON AND EVALUATION OF THE ACCURACY OF CARTOSAT DEM AND SRTM DEM

B. Vaishnavi, Kiran Yarrakula and J. Karthikeyan

Abstract

Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is a three-dimensional representation of the Earth Surface topography that is used by researchers around the world for various scientific purposes such as Flood Mapping, Soil Erosion Estimation, Surveying, etc. A study on the accuracy of elevation values of DEM is inevitable as it directly influences the result of many applications. In the present study, Cartosat DEM and SRTM DEM are compared to assess the accuracy with Toposheet as a reference. Based on the assessment, a scalability equation is suggested to improve the accuracy of elevation values up to 98%.
