DESCRIPTION OF CHILDREN UNDER-FIVE AND INDOOR CONDITIONS TO COMPLAINTS SYMPTOMS OF ARI AT DAY CARE, DEPOK CITY, WEST JAVA, INDONESIA, 2018

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) is a major causes of infectious diseases that affect morbidity and mortality in children under-five. Based on data from the Depok Health Office in 2017, ARI in children under-five is in the first ranks of ten diseases. The symptoms could be caused by characteristics of children and indoor conditions. Now a days many children under-five spend most of their time indoor, especially who attend in day care who attend day care from morning to evening. That matter because their parents are busy working, therefore they leave their children with day care. The aims of this study were to describe the characteristics of children under-five years and indoor conditions towards ARI symptoms complaint in Day Care Sukmajaya, Depok, West Java, Indonesia which was conducted from February to July 2018. The design was an ecological study with 8 day cares in Sukmajaya Depok as the samples. The results showed that the proportion of day care who had the highest symptoms of ARI in children under-five was same as the proportion of day care who had lowest symptoms of ARI in children under-five. The majority of day care had male children (75%), normal nutrition status (100%), completed basic immunization status 100%, PM10 concentration met the requirements (100%), 75% temperature beyond requirements, 100% humidity meet requirements, 62.5 % lighting met requirements, 75% occupancy density did not meet requirements, all ventilation area did not meet requirements (100%). The characteristic children under-five, day care who have children under-five with male and female are equally at risk have a higher proportion of complaints symptoms of ARI. Day care who have children under-five with normal nutrition status and complete immunization status are equally at risk have a higher proportion of complaints symptoms of ARI. The indoor condition factors, although PM10 concentration meet requirement, but other factors such as humidity, lighthing, occupancy density, and area ventilation does not meet the requirement. This condition causes high complaints of ARI symptoms in day care.
