Abstract

The correlation of air temperature and rainfall was analyzed for the total of fish catch landings in Songkhla lake, including 14 dominant species. Most species records contained 165 months of data during the period of 2003-2016. Overall, the total catch of species was found had a strong negative correlation with mean seasonal temperature. The study result was different between species. Valamugil cunnesius showed a positive correlation with monthly, seasonally and yearly rainfall and negative correlation with rainfall in lag one season. Hampala macrolepidota and Pristolepis fasciata had a negative correlation with air temperature in monthly and seasonally. Platystacus anguillaris and Scatophagus argus were shown to have only positive with monthly temperature. Seminally, Metapenaeus brevicornis had positive relationship with both monthly and lag-one season of rainfall and negative correlation with seasonal and yearly mean temperature. The Scylla olivacea had a strong negative correlation with seasonal rainfall, this is reasonable when it showed the strong positive correlation with monthly and seasonal temperature. These results are preliminary inquiries to convince local authorities and researchers to implement further research on the changes in fish catches, in hopes that sustainable fish species strategy management will be established in Songkhla lake.
