THE EFFECT OF EXTENSION STRATEGY AND SOCIAL STATUS ON FARMERS’ KNOWLEDGE ABOUT LAND CONSERVATION (AN EXPERIMENT AT KECAMATAN LEMAH ABANG, KARAWANG)

Abstract

The aim of the research was to identify the effect of extension strategy and social status on the farmers’knowledge about land conservation at Kecamatan Lemah Abang, Karawang. This research was an experimental method with factorial 2x2. The sampling objects were 96 farmers. The two ways Varian analysis(ANOVA) was used in hypothesis test and continued by t-Tuckey test. The result was: 1) there was significant difference on farmers’ knowledge between those that used indoor extension strategy and outdoor extension strategy. The farmers’ knowledge about land conservation that used indoor extension strategy had better results than outdoor extension strategy; 2) there was no significant difference on farmers’ knowledge about land conservation between those that have high social status and lower social status; 3) There was no significant difference on farmers’ knowledge about land conservation between those who have high social status and use indoor extension strategy and outdoor extension strategy; 4) there was no significant difference on farmers’ knowledge about land conservation between farmers that have lower social status and use indoor extension strategy and outdoor extension strategy; and 5) There was no significant interaction between extension strategy and social status on farmers’ knowledge about land conservation.
