BOTI TRIBE : FOOD SECURITY NEEDS ASSESSMENT BASED ON THEIR LOCAL WISDOM

Abstract

Boti tribe is a descendent from the indigenous tribe of Timor Island whose life is still dependent on nature and strong customs. Livelihood of Boti tribe community is farming. The objectives of this study were to identify food security conditions, analyze the adequacy of food availability and determine variables as indicators that can lead to problems of food security. A descriptive method was used as the research method.While the sampling technique was accidental sampling technique. Samples collected were 30 people of original Boti Tribe. Data used were primary and secondary data. Data collection techniques were: observation,structured interview and documentation. By percentage analysis, the result of this research showed that food security level of Boti tribe; 37% is in susceptible category, 30% food resistant, 23% less food and 10%food insecurity. There was a correlation between the level of household food security with age, education level, number of household members, household income and local wisdom of Boti tribe.
