AMIT ARORA, SUKHJINDER SINGH SANDHU AND NARENDRA SINGH

Abstract

Lubricants are having a potential market which needs to be replaced by bio lubricants because of their high biodegradability, non-toxicity, low bio accumulation, high detergency etc. The current study reports the usage, the classification, the properties, the applications and advantages/disadvantages of bio lubricants. It is found that when compared with the mineral based lubricants, the bio lubricants are found to have, high lubricity, high flash point, high viscosity and viscosity index, lower pour point and cloud point which makes them suitable for various industrial applications such as hydraulic fluids, automotive lubricants, Gear oils, chainsaw lubricants, bio greases, engine oils, compressor oils and many more.
