Abstract
Green-Sustainable tribology which has been a crucial area of research interest for tribologists across the globe having a great impetus for energy saving, carbon footprint reduction and sustainability since its global acknowledgement. This paper attempts to provide a rational review of the recent developments in the field of Green-Sustainable tribology from its inception. An attempt to summaries and highlight the fundamentals and principles of this newly emerged field which encompasses Green Chemistry and Green Engineering have been made. A focused approach elaborating how energy saving aspects of tribology can be applied are expounded in manuscript. In this article, consideration of the environment-friendly attributes for the development of tribo-pairs machine parts and equipmentââ¬â¢s with self-healing behavior, for better robust designs of machine components over entire life cycle utilising eco-friendly lubricants and biomimetic approach is discussed. Furthermore, the relationship of green tribology with energy, carbon footprint, environment and sustainable development is also presented.
