ADSORPTION ZN(II) ON BLOOD COCKLE SHELL (ANADARAGRANOSA)

Febri Eko Wahyudianto and Ali Masduqi

Abstract

Waste of blood cockle shell (Anadaragranosa) can be used as an alternative adsorbent. The objective the research was to determine optimum dosage, characteristics of blood cockle shell, adsorption capacity and isotherm with activation variation (110 oC, 550 oC, and H2SO4 0.5M) as an alternative adsorbent to remove the metals Zn2+. Adsorption isotherms obtained from the batch experiments with contact time 6 hours 150rpm by varying the mass of adsorbent. The result show that optimum dosage on 0.3 g/100 mL. Characteristic test of blood cockle shell with energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) show that it contains Zn after used for adsorbent. The maximum adsorption capacity blood cockle shell that used as adsorbent Zn2+ were 200mg/g (activation 550 oC). The result isotherm adsorption show that adsorption with blood cockle shell following Freundlichisotherm models with determination coefficient (R2) 0.884.
