AN INSIGHT INTO AN EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITY ON ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION: AN EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING APPROACH

Sikhulile Bonginkosi Msezane

Abstract

This paper examines the impact of Environmental Education on students with regard to unacceptable waste dumping, which causes land degradation in South Africa. This is a qualitative, case study paper exploring the impact that an extra-curricular activity would have on the students in eradicating unacceptable solid waste disposal. Data was collected through an unstructured interview guide, focus group interview and observations. Findings show that despite the extra-curricular activities on Environmental Education, students were not fully acquainted with the responsibility of taking care of the environment and curbing littering on the school premises.
