Abstract

The demand for building materials these days is very high and show the way to poor quality of construction leads the structure to lose its strength at very early age. Also Damage of the structure due to poor Workmanship, inferior design and mainly due to increase in loading and environmental degradation the structure get damages leads to repair and rehabilitation of structures. Hence repair work may be carried out to strengthen the building using various techniques. Even though many of techniques are available for repair work, some gets fail in strengthening side. Ferro cement wrapping technology, one of the lead methods for strengthening concrete elements, is used in this Investigation. Ferro cement is another route of reinforced concrete in which the cement mortar is reinforced with closely spaced layer of small diameter wire mesh. The experimental investigation includes casting and testing of 10 rectangular beams (Series A-J) including traditional beam. Series A and F is traditional beam, Series B-E with W/C ratio 0.45 are wrapped over beam with 1 to 4 layer of mesh and Series G-J follows W/C ratio 0.50 are wrapped over beam with 1 to 4 layer of mesh. Similarly Series B-E with W/C ratio 0.45 are reinforced with U- Section with 1 to 4 layer of mesh and Series G-J follows W/C ratio 0.50 are reinforced with U- Section with 1 to 4 layer of mesh following Series A and F is traditional beam. The parameters investigated in each series of beam are compared and results are discussed. This study also determines research gaps and suggests the future researchers to establish Ferro cement composites as a feasible material for strengthening concrete members.
