MICRO STRUCTURAL STUDY ON NANO FLY ASH CONCRETE

M. Harihanandh and N.K. Amudhavalli

Abstract

The green concrete is capable for sustainable development and characterized by the application of industrial wastes to reduce the pollution of environment. Nano concrete is the new generation concrete made by nanomaterial. The raw fly ash from thermal power plant has been converted in to nano size due to continuous ball milling process of more than eight hours and confirmed by SEM and EDEX. In this research the material used in the concrete is cement of OPC, nano fly ash of 10 – 200nm, fine aggregate of 150 μm–10mm and the coarse aggregate 5–20 mm. Application of nanotechnology favors to reduce the pollution of environment and also formulate high performance concrete. The results reveal that the increase in percentage of compressive strength of nano fly ash concrete is 10%, 22% and 25% greater than the compressive strength of ultra fine fly ash, raw fly ash and conventional concrete.
