EFFECT OF TYPE OF CURING AND CURING TEMPERATURE ON STRENGTH BEHAVIOR OF GEOPOLYMER CONCRETE MADE WITH FLYASH

G. Siva Chidambaram and M. Natarajan

Abstract

The cement industry is one of the dominant contributors to the production of greenhouse gases. So, efforts are demanded to make concrete further environmentally friendly by adopting fly ash which helps in overcome global warming as well as the fly ash clearance difficulty. In this research, efforts were taken to investigate the impact of curing temperature and method on the compression strength on the geopolymer concrete made with complete M-sand as fine aggregate. The M30 grade Geopolymer concrete was produced with treated fly ash which is chemically activated through alkaline solutions like sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). All the specimens were cured in a variety of temperatures under oven at 40 oC, 60 oC, 80 oC, 100 oC, 120 oC and 140 oC for 8, 16 and 24 hours. The fly ash to solution ratio of 0.6 with sodium hydroxide solution of 16M concentrated was used. In this paper, we have studied the different types of curing like Oven, Accelerated, Membrane and Steam Curing and at various temperatures.
