LYSIMETRIC STUDIES TO ESTIMATE THE SOLUTE ANDCONTAMINANT TRANSPORT IN HYDROGEOLOGICAL PROFILEArjun Suresh and Tanu JindalAbstract Water resources on the earth are always impacted by industry, agriculture, mining and other human activities. To suggest control measures for pollutant transport in different hydrological conditions the associatedretention mechanisms must be identified. Study of different contaminants leaching has been carried out todevelop the methodology to monitor the fate and mobility of contaminants and to evaluate solute transportmodels. Vadose zone leaching model is used for estimating the impact due to the mobilization and migrationof contaminant located in the vadose zone on the underlying groundwater resource. Lysimeters are veryimportant in measuring chemical concentrations and fluxes in soil. Lysimeter studies are carried out tounderstand the impact of contaminant transport in the hydrogeological profile and to develop a new methodand model for leaching studies. It has been observed that leaching studies must be modified according tothe need and recommendations are made to make it a necessary method for risk assessment of groundwatercontamination.
