Abstract

The paper presents the results of studying the water quality of the Kuban River flowing within the city of Krasnodar. On the section of the Kuban River from its entrance to the city to the exit from the city 10 points had been allocated, and water samples were taken. A quantitative chemical analysis of water samples was carried out based on 11 indicators: chlorides, ammonium ion, nitrite ion, nitrate ion, chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), oil products, total iron, phosphates, suspended solids, and sulphates. A microbiological analysis was carried out based on three following indicators: total coliform bacteria (TCB), thermo tolerant coliform bacteria (TTCB), and coliphages. A photometric analysis (total iron, sulphates, ammonium ion, nitrate ion, nitrite ion), titrimetric analysis (COD, chlorides), IR spectrometric analysis with preliminary extraction (oil products) was used to determine the content of pollutants. The microbiological analysis has confirmed the presence of TCB and TTCB, which indicates the effect of household runoffs.
