Abstract

The soil sample was used for the isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and identification of the pigmented organism was done through Microscopy, Biochemical and Cultural characterization. Optimization of incubation time, pH and temperature was carried out for the maximal pigment production. Extraction and purification of the pigment was carried out through Column chromatography and Thin Layer chromatography. The application of microbial pigment Pyocyanin was further carried out and it could be used to replace the ink ink-jet printing, pens and highlighters. The Pyocyanin derived from Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an ecofriendly substance and highly degradable. It does not cause any soil or environmental pollution. Hence, it was effectively used as an alternative for inkjet printing. Further, this work may provoke the future scientists to further exploit other microbial pigments and correlate its significance.
